Getting Health Care In European Countries

If you are planning a trip to Europe then it is vital that you make sure that you have some kind of medical cover. Even the most basic of emergency and routine medical procedures can cost the uninsured a huge amount.

The good news is that if you are from most European countries then you can get a European Health Insurance Card. This allows you to get emergency care in a number of countries due to reciprocal arrangements.

The EHIC will cover the basics, but it is far from being the end of the story. For instance in many cases although emergency care may be covered, the full cost of hospital stays may not be, and repatriation costs definitely won’t be.

Travel insurance often promises great things when it comes to medical cover. Unfortunately there are often a lot of get-out clauses that mean that travellers can find they are without cover.
