All Change for London’s Taxis
So it seems a though the days of the iconic London black cab are numbered. Much like Routemaster buses and traditional red telephone boxes (or any telephone boxes for that matter) the black cabs that are known as being quintessentially ‘London’ are set to be confined to the dustbin of history.
The reason that this slice of heritage is being thrown away is of course the so-called ‘climate change’ agenda… so out will go the 2 litre big bored diesel engines- and i will come the electric engines that meet the political agenda of the day.
What will be replacing the traditional taxis is still up in the air. Obviously many of the big manufacturers are keen to have their vehicles adopted for this prominent role. VW for instance have created the concept taxi in the picture below. It clearly takes some cues from the current models in use, but there is also clear evidence of some the marques design DNA from their range of vans. The lithium ion battery is good for up to 186 miles between charges and a top speed of 74mph can be wrestled from the electric motor.
